Assistant Youth Learning Center Coordinator

Category: Non-Exempt Part-Time >20 hrs/week
Department / Division: Youth Programs
Position Description: Support the Learning Center Coordinator with the implementation of daily programs for school age children and their families.

Education/Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Recreation, Sociology or Human Services strongly preferred or equivalent education and/or experience.  High School diploma required. Minimum of one year work experience in a group leadership position with youth. Valid North Carolina driver’s license.  Must be 21 years old. Must have a minimum of 3 years driving and with a good driving record.

Duties and ResponsibilitiesAssist Learning Center Coordinator in planning monthly schedule of activities including daily homework tutoring, special activities, field trips, support services, and wellness classes. Observe, record and report individual child’s behavior and progresses as assigned. Participates in daily cleaning of program space. Assist with transportation services for school pick-ups and off site events for youth. This position works Mondays – Fridays from 2:30pm – 6:30pm during the school year and 9:00am – 5:00pm on Teacher Workdays and Summer and Winter Breaks. Salary:  $9.00 - $11.00 per hour, depending upon background and experience.  Locations include both Mecklenburg County and Union County, please include within your cover letter which county you are applying for. Lifeguard
Category: Part-Time Hourly <20 hrs/week
Department / Division: Fitness

Reports to: Director of Fitness

Position Objective: Under general supervision, lifeguard will attentively observe the pool area and enforce YWCA rules and regulations.

Education/Experience: Certifications will include current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and First Aid. Must be a strong swimmer. Minimum one year of lifeguarding experience is preferred but not necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Watch the pool and ensure safety of swimmers at all times. Lifeguards must be attentive to their areas of responsibility and not be distracted.
  • Enforce all rules established at the YWCA and posted at the facility. Always be professional, polite and consistent when enforcing rules.
  • Be able to respond rapidly to all emergencies in the pool area and administer proper care to victims in the instance of an emergency. Complete incident report and notify Aquatics Coordinator and/or Director of Fitness when accidents or emergencies occur.
  • Test chlorine, pH, air and water temperature every three hours and log results in the quality log.
  • Record hourly patron attendance. Manage pool patron traffic during times of multiple events or heavy usage.
  • Monitor severe weather conditions, closing the pool when necessary.
  • Report any mechanical or chemical problems in pool area to Aquatics Coordinator and/or Director of Fitness.
  • Assist in keeping the pool and pool deck clean.
  • Additional duties as required by the Aquatics Coordinator and/or Director of Fitness.

Swim Instructor

Category: Part-Time Hourly <20 hrs/week

Reports to: Director of Fitness

Position Description: Instruct safe swim classes (private and/or group) at the YWCA Central Carolinas.

Education/Experience: Instructor must have at least one year’s experience in teaching swim classes as well as individuals of various ages and ability levels.  Must have and maintain a current certification by the American Red Cross in Water Safety Instruction (WSI) and a current CPR/First Aid certification.  Possess excellent communication skills and be able to communicate effectively with both groups and individuals.

Duties and Responsibilities: Plan and organize own lesson plans, methods and goals that support the general teaching outlines provided by the Aquatics Coordinator and the American Red Cross Swimming Program. Organize and direct activities of assigned students in order to provide a high level of quality instruction for all participants. Establish positive relations with parents/guardians of class students, helping them to recognize and understand swimming developments and achievements. Resolve simple complaints from participants/parents/guardians in matters related to swimming instruction and refer more challenging complaints to the Aquatics Coordinator. Enforce pool safety standards and facility operational rules for all individuals using the facilities. Help organize and assist in the development of special programs, activities or instruction. Be well-organized, on time to class, and be able to develop evolving lesson plans for individuals and/or classes with diverse populations. When a substitute is needed, instructors should contact staff from available sub list and notify Aquatics Coordinator of the substitution. Keep instructional areas neat and orderly and replace any equipment used for classes. Accurately track and report all hours worked. FRONT DESK CUSTOMER SERVICE

 

Category: Non-exempt, Part-time, hourly, <20 hours a week

Department/Division: Fitness

Reports to: Director of Fitness

 

Education/Experience:

 

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Minimum of two years work experience desired.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Greet all incoming and outgoing members and guests; and be able to direct them to any meeting being held within the building.

  • Ensure the security of the facility by ensuring that every guest signs in.

  • Manage a multi-line telephone system by answering all incoming phone calls promptly and transferring to appropriate parties or to their voicemail.

  • Maintain knowledge of all YWCA programs including the Sarah Belk Gambrell Fitness Center; class schedules and descriptions; features; off-site locations; and internal/external departments and staff.

  • Discuss programs with prospective members and point out highlights of each YWCA program.

  • Handle member concerns and complaints with professionalism. Recognize the individual's concern/complaint and direct the issue to the appropriate staff member in a timely manner.

  • Maintain records of guest visits from potential members, CHS employees, and visitors.

  • Encourage member referrals and other means of internal marketing.

  • Maintain supply of membership marketing materials and enrollment packets.

  • Complete shift duties: organize and straighten up magazine rack in cardio room; books put away and bookshelves are neat and organized; water dispenser cups refilled and water tray emptied; make sure floors/lockers are free of trash; close locker doors; bring lost & found items to front desk; check antibacterial wipes in exercise rooms; and clean and wipe down the front desk area.

  • Follow the approved procedures for member enrollment, financial transaction entry in computer, and opening and closing duties.

  • Encourage new membership, continued membership and involvement with fitness center activities.

  • Monitor exterior lights and turn on/off at appropriate time (dusk/dawn).

  • Check students in for class sessions.

  • Maintain effective communication with other Front Desk and Help Desk Staff to insure consistency in YWCA response.

  • Complete an incident report if an accident should happen.

  • Know and implement incident procedure if an accident occurs.

  • Other administrative duties as needed for the YWCA Sarah Belk Gambrell Fitness Center.

    Weekdays: 7am – 11am; 11am – 4pm; 4pm – 9pm
