women in transition (WIT)

The YWCA believes in safe, secure housing and seeks to bring hope to single, unaccompanied women in our community.

WomenInTransitionweb

For more than 17 years, the YWCA has operated the Women In Transition (WIT) program, which is now recognized as a YWCA hallmark program by the southeastern region of YWCAs. With safe, affordable housing and comprehensive support services, single women have the opportunity to move their lives to firmer foundations. From computer training to budgeting skills to preparing for job interviews and health and fitness, the YWCA offers participants a variety of opportunities to grow and set goals for the future. Program participants may remain in the program for up to 18 months.

We provide welcome bundles for women entering the Women In Transition program. If you are interested in providing these items for women, please check out our greatest needs list. We appreciate your help in providing a warm welcome to women transitioning out of homelessness!

 Program Outcomes (2015)

  • 93 percent of participants participating four months or longer successfully exited into permanent housing
  • 83 percent of participants participating four months or longer maintained or increased their incomes by time of exit

"This experience helped me more than words can express. It took me places, showed me things about myself, and most important, eliminated things in my life that meant me no good." - Graduate, WIT Program
